Winter Run Manchester
Following on from London’s second successful Winter Run they decided to open them up to Manchester and Liverpool too. Manchester's inaugural event was held at the Etihad in February 2016.
Parking was very easy and was very close to the start line and the race village. My friend was doing the fun run so I cheered her on before heading to start line for the 10k.
There was a short warm up before the start and then we were off. The start took you up the gangway towards the Etihad and around the outside. It then double backs on itself past the Etihad and down a lane. Again this comes back on itself and onto the athletics track for a loop. Back towards the Etihad, down the gangway and left onto and around the carpark. This is one loop and you then you do it again.
There wasn’t much support on the course with it being at the Etihad stadium but the Marshalls were fantastic. All be it some a little too enthusiastic, those who were jumping into people’s paths to give them high fives.
I worked as hard as I could on this course and given it was twisty and had a few inclines I was incredibly surprised to knock a few seconds off my PB 48:54. I felt I had earned my medal.
Unfortunately, no goody bags at the winter run series. They do provide water and vita coco at the finish.
Winter Run series are great at sending out emails letting you know what is going on and how to get to their races. They sent their race pack out with plenty of time to spare. Their website is full of useful information. In 2015/2016 photos were taken by SportCam and cost £28 to download all images.
